PfPC RSSC SG Hones in on New Security Arrangements in the South Caucasus

Reichenau an der Rax, Austria -  The Partnership for Peace Consortium (PfPC) successfully hosted the 26th Workshop of the Regional Stability in South Caucasus Study Group (RSSC SG) in Reichenau/Rax, Austria, from Nov. 16-19. This landmark event gathered over 32 experts and academics from 14 countries, encompassing diverse fields such as defense, foreign affairs, academia, think tanks, NGOs, and civil society. In collaboration with notable institutions like the Austrian National Defence Academy and the European Geopolitical Forum, the workshop focused on developing "New Security Arrangements for the South Caucasus," addressing critical issues like the Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict and the broader implications of Russia’s war against Ukraine.

 

In-Depth Analysis and Collaborative Dialogue:  The workshop facilitated deep discussions on pivotal topics, including potential resolutions between Armenia and Azerbaijan, the strategic interests of regional powers like Russia, Turkey, and Iran, and the broader regional implications of these conflicts. The RSSC SG engaged in interactive sessions to explore political polarization, the integration of the South Caucasus, and the external factors influencing new security arrangements in the region. Lieutenant General Erich Csitkovits, Commandant of the Austrian National Defence Academy, emphasized the workshop’s unique, inclusive approach, encouraging open dialogue and holistic perspectives beyond traditional diplomatic channels.

 

Charting the Path Forward - Building a Stable and United Region:  As the workshop concluded, the PfPC and its partners reaffirmed their commitment to fostering continuous dialogue and seeking innovative solutions for peace and stability in the South Caucasus. The focus going forward is to translate the insights and strategies discussed into actionable plans, enhancing cooperation and understanding among regional states and international stakeholders. This commitment underscores the consortium's dedication to a continual journey towards achieving long-term peace and stability in the region, promoting a collaborative and inclusive approach to address the complex challenges facing the South Caucasus.
