Stockholm, Sweden - The Strategic Leadership in Global Societal Security Programme (SLP) for Ukraine project, an initiative coordinated by the Partnership for Peace Consortium’s Irregular Warfare Resilience Working Group (IWRWG) and NATO-IS, was successfully held at the Swedish Defence University from June 21-22, 2023. This collaborative, multinational workshop forms a key part of NATO's security capacity-building efforts and served as a forum for tailoring SLP content to specifically meet Ukrainian interests, needs, and priorities. The primary goal of this workshop was to enhance Ukraine's resilience and capabilities in countering Irregular Warfare/Hybrid Threats (IW/HT).

Boosting Ukraine's Defense against Hybrid Threats.  The workshop brought together various experts, panelists, lecturers, and facilitators to examine the current state of SLPs, propose enhancements, and discuss Ukraine's unique needs, interests, and priorities regarding IW/HT and resilience. Moreover, this collective effort was designed to support Ukraine's civilian and military strategic leadership directly, establishing lessons learned from NATO, partner countries, and Ukraine itself. By doing so, the workshop aimed to bolster not only Ukraine's resilience but also the broader security framework of Europe and NATO.

Charting the Course: Next Steps for Ukrainian SLP.  As the project moves forward, the partners of the "SLP for Ukraine project" are now set to evaluate the workshop's outcomes, assess proposed enhancements, and determine which will be integrated into Ukrainian SLP1-3. The IWRWG will continue to drive the project, proposing further actions to support the project's goals in 2023 and 2024 and coordinating ongoing efforts. The close collaboration with the Swedish Defence University is set to continue, ensuring that the implementation of the "SLP for Ukraine project" remains effective and relevant. This initiative is a vital step towards building a more resilient and secure future for Ukraine and its NATO allies.
